We are living in turbulent times marked by uncertainty, polarization, and a growing sense of psychological and spiritual disorientation. In the midst of collective chaos, we seek ways of grounding and meaning. This program explores narcissism not only as an individual phenomenon but as a cultural–archetypal force shaping contemporary life, including conspiracy movements such as QAnon.
Narcissistic dynamics—grandiosity, denial of vulnerability, control, or lack of empathy—emerge from a split between the masculine and feminine, the sacred and the profane. This split increases susceptibility to distortion and gives rise to conspiratorial mythologies, while intensifying the search for certainty, belonging, and meaning.
A Jungian perspective offers a way forward. Rather than dismissing conspiracy narratives as nonsense, it approaches them as symbols—expressions of deeper individuation needs, attempts to restore meaning and a more discerning relationship to reality. Individuation in this context involves withdrawing projections, tolerating uncertainty, and employing a spiritual attitude: re-establishing a credible relationship to the Self. This process allows for greater psychological stability, deeper connection, and a more authentic sense of meaning even within collective turmoil.
